High Tables are formal dinners that are hosted by Hall Committee and the catering team throughout the year. These events usually begin with a drinks reception in Old Wing Dining Room, followed by a procession into the main dining hall. In recent years, a resident has played the bagpipes whilst the high table guests enter. Residents may be invited to sit on the high table and they have their food served to them, instead of the usual service. These events are really fun, and residents are strongly encouraged to dress smartly and wear their gown if they have one!
Uni Hall is renowned for its regular ceilidhs! Ceilidhs involve traditional Scottish dancing with a live band and can be lots of fun! Ceilidhs are often held at parties and special events in Scotland.
Each year, Committee organises a hall photo, where every resident is invited to gather on Lower College Lawn for one big photo. These photos can make excellent Christmas gifts for relatives and are a great way to remember your time in Hall!
For our Halloween dinner, the dining room is decorated in a Hogwarts style. Residents are invited to dress up and free sweets are handed out. The menu also has a spooky theme!
CHRISTMAS DINNER AND CABARET
On the Friday of week 11, we host our annual Christmas dinner. Free wine is provided by Committee and a lovely Christmas menu replaces the regular one! Afterwards, residents gather in Old Wing Dining Room for a talent show!
University Hall also hosts lots of quizzes throughout the year. The winners are given great prizes!
Our final high table dinner at the end of the academic year celebrates the Hall's graduating students (Valedictorians). This dinner is a particularly special one, where graduating students are invited to make a speech should they wish! There is also a Valedictory ceilidh and drinks to celebrate!
Uni Hall hosts two garden parties each year - one of the beginning and one at the end! These are great events with free Janetta's ice cream, pimms, ceilidhs and snacks!
Every year, two hall ball reps are elected to plan and organise our annual ball, with the help of the rest of the Committee. This is a spectacular night where residents can enjoy celebrating the year with their fellow Uni Hallers!
